THE man behind showpiece Capital of Culture production Adelphi – The Musical wants to base it on real-life tales of romance from the hotel.
In his first interview about the project, which is expected to be one of the highlights of 2008, writer Phil Willmott said he wants it to be a funny, extra- vagant production that will appeal to everyone.
It will be staged as part of the Everyman and Playhouse’s programme for the celebration year.
Willmott, who produced Around The World in 80 Days for the Playhouse, wants to capture the Adelphi in its heyday.
He told the Daily Post: “The Adelphi is such a big part of Liverpool. It’s romantic but full of scandal.”
Although the Adelphi project is still in the very early stages, he is keen to weave in true-life tales of romance at the iconic building into the script.
ANYONE with a story to tell should write to Phil Willmott care of Liverpool Everyman and Playhouse, 13 Hope Street, Liverpool, L1 9BH.
