About
The Art In Liverpool Website and Blog was setup by Ian Jackson with the help of Minako Jackson and occasional contributions from others. It started in August 2004 as a simple listing of Liverpool galleries and exhibitions. Then the blog started in time for the 2004 Liverpool Biennial and the site has grown ever since.
There are now several thousand postings covering news, reviews, previews, interviews etc. relating mainly to the Liverpool Art & Culture scene and sometimes even national or international news.
In September 2011 Ian & Minako decided to reduce their online activity and have now handed over the running of the site to VAiL (Visual Arts in Liverpool).
Visual Arts in Liverpool (VAiL) is a consortium of visual arts organisations established in 2007 to raise Liverpool’s reputation as the UK’s leading regional city for visual arts.
With a long history of art production, commissioning and acquisitioning, Liverpool has arguably the best quality, variety and concentration of visual arts venues of any regional UK city. Spectacular historical collections and exhibitions at the Walker Art Gallery and Tate Liverpool sit next to cutting edge international contemporary art at Liverpool Biennial, FACT and the Bluecoat.
Member organisations include the Bluecoat, Liverpool Biennial, Tate Liverpool, National Museums Liverpool, Metal, Ceri Hand Gallery, A Foundation, FACT and Open Eye Gallery. In addition, there is a large number of other organisations that make up the diverse and complex visual arts landscape in Liverpool including artists’ studios, artist-run galleries and further and higher education institutions.
VAiL is supported by Arts Council England.
