statement:
|
In my paintings and drawings I try to convey an animal’s movement, shape and an expression of their energy. I’m seeking to describe a creature’s essential qualities or motif. My artwork is informed by my studies in sculpture and anatomical drawing. I work in charcoal, acrylic and collage on paper and acrylic on canvas; attempting to construct a form through paper and paint. I’m inspired by the work of the sculptors such as Henry Moore and Elizabeth Frink; contemporary artists such as Bridget McCrum and John Atkin. I’m also interested in the representation of animals in art and culture, particularly early cave art and the animal drawings of masters such as Leonardo and the painter Stubbs. |
