statement:
My earliest memories have been ones of being a guest in my own life, on the outside looking in. As if reflecting this, my working life has been involved with people who could be described as being marginalized and on the edge of society. This has all been “fuel for the fire” of my work, however, since the death of my mother in 2002, and the breakdown of my marriage in the previous year, I have struggled with my creativity.

I have felt creatively numb, and any attempt at producing work since that time has been met with personal resistance and fear. Subsequently, life has been creatively barren and painful, and I have felt as if an essential part of me has been dead or missing, with life lacking colour, passion and vibrancy. This new work is in response to both events and how I have felt my artistic process has been intrinsically linked to people and events outside me.

Exploring this theme of my creativity being dependant on outside events and others, an experience or gift “not my own” has been a revelation. Although it has not totally freed me from resistance and fear of artistic expression, it has given me amazing insight and awareness of my creative process and deep loneliness.

Through my work I explore feelings of loneliness, isolation, exclusion and fear that I have experienced through my personal and working life. I use found objects, sounds, words and spaces that people have used or left behind, to create work in a variety of media. I find the traces and imprints left by people more fascinating and powerful than their human presence.

news:
I am currently working with inks and colour and small scale works due to my studio being my bedroom!

I also do sculpture with found objects, site specific art, use sound and words, photography as well as making handmade books and collages, all in a variety of media.

exhibitions:
I enjoy working collaboratively and with communities and groups. I have exhibited with Creative Lets 3 times, with Nicole Bartos and other women artists in June 2005 in Blackburne House, and am currently in Urban Coffee.
