Deadline Extended to December 31st

The closing date for the 100Shirts T shirt design competition has been postponed until December 31st.
But don't fool yourself into thinking you can do your design over the Christmas break, do it now!
From the organisers...

As you read this you will probably move through one of two emotions
Happy: because you now have some more time
Sad/frustrated: because you have pushed yourself to comply with the brief.
For our part we are in both camps - and we are trying to respond and be as fair as we can to everyone who would want to enter.
There are two reasons for the change.
1. An advert we placed to promote the 100shirts to artists/designers throughout the UK did not hit the streets until today (the magazine had a problem with their printers - completely out of our hands) which means we have not been able to communicate the timetable to many would be entrants - we want to rectify this as best we can and believe this to be fair.
2. A growing number of applicants have requested an extension. We are slightly uncomfortable responding to these requests as so many of you have managed to meet the original deadline and we know it has been a stretch for you - but some applicants have perfectly good reasons for requesting the extension and we feel it only fair that we respond and offer the extra time.

Everything else to do with the quality of the entries, the website and exhibition is moving on at a pace and we will keep you all in touch with each new development as it happens.

Get back to us with you thoughts/concerns/issues and remember the Blog we have set up for everyone involved to voice their thoughts @ http://www.artinliverpool.com/100shirts/

10 days to go - Submit up to 3 Designs

From Bob at p-ornithology...

Hi All!
We are now heading towards the final week of the 100Shirts Competition, right bang in the middle of the busiest week of the year - Christmas!

Christmas Post
Please remember the Christmas post and all the delays that come with it - If you haven't already submitted your designs into us, be starting to think about getting them in (Artwork via email and application forms in the post with a printout of your designs attached).

Submit 3 designs
A few of you have come back to us asking where to take the brief: Birds in the City
It's free for you to roam anywhere you like! We've had designs from all angles from humorous to serious, political to downright silly! Whatever your ideas, if you are not sure what angle to design from, remember you can submit up to 3 designs so use them all!

The more designs you submit, the more chances you have of being featured in the 100Shirts Exhibition, the 100Shirts Book and the 100Shirts Website as well any publicity which accompanies these. We have already had features in Another Late Night, Aesthetic, Bana Arts, Love Liverpool and The Liverpool Echo with more to come as the competition progresses! And think of the prize money - Who doesn't need £1500 at this time of year?!!

Here at 100Shirts
We are working hard on the Webspace for the 100Shirts Site - It's looking great! It should be up by the 6th January 2006 and will show all the 100Shirts. There will be an opportunity for you to vote for the designs you like best so you will have to let all your friends and family know where to find your designs!

The 100Shirts Book
We are also nearly there with the sponsorship for the 100Shirts Book which will feature every design!! We want it to be ready for the 100Shirts Exhibition in February 06. The design for the book has been completed already and looks extremely smart - It should show off all of your artwork fabulously. So! Get those entries in and you could be a 'published' artist too!!

Well - That's all from us for now.

By the way, how's everyone's festive shopping going? It looks as though Robbie and Barry will both be out doing that blokey 'last-minute-peg-round-the-shops-panicking' thing that all blokes do this time of year... so I might actually get a bit of peace and quiet in the office!! - Which is nice! I've obviously done all mine so I will be staying incredibly calm this week as I've got nothing to do but enjoy that incredibly smug feeling and looking out for your entries in the post!!

Have a good week!

Bob <}:O)

8 days to go - Remember - 2 Colours Only

Here is a Frequently Asked Question...

" I know the brief says we can only use two colours but do shades of the same colour count?"

And here is the answer from Bob...

"In screen printing, separate screens have to be made for each individual colour or shade of colour and so even shades of the same colour will count separately.

Thus, if you wanted to use maroon, red, pink, and baby pink - this would count as four colours and not just all as one colour in different shades.

You can only use two colours for your design.

I hope that answers your question clearly."

4 days to go

More info from Bob....

Hi Chaps and Chapesses!

I know the deadline is upon us (Noon on Sat. 31st) so follow the brief and get your artwork over to me via email before the deadline and post your application forms as soon as you can.

A couple of tips to make it easier/ quicker for you to complete your entries...

1. Stick to two colours only. Shades of the same colour will count as separate colours here as we will be using screen-printing techniques which means a separate screen will have to be made for each colour even if it's the same shade.

2. Keep the artwork simple. By restricting your work to two colours, you will find it's more powerful to create designs more simply than you would for any other competition.

3. We have had humorous, political, puns, birds, serious entries, silly entries so anything that takes your fancy! You have up to three entries, so keep em simple and use all your entries - Even if it's only to give an alternative version of the same design - But obviously, if you enter all three (different) you will have more chance of being chosen for the exhibition in feb! A couple of artists were unsure which version to enter and have entered a couple of the same version - Each quite powerful in their own right - It's worth a thought!

4. Read the brief - The template is 26cm x 26cm across the front of the chest. You don't have to use all the space, that's just the space given for your design. Make sure your art is actually to scale on your entries emailed over as if you are chosen, these computer files will be sent directly to the printers.

5. Email your finished designs over to me with your full name and title of your design. It makes it easier for me to go through them all and make sure I've filed them correctly!
Christmas post can be a pain so do make sure you email your application forms asap... One per entry. We will need them for judging. Oh, and make sure you attach a printout of your design to the back of your form.

6. Once you have emailed your artwork over, I will check it over for you and come back to you if there are any little changes to be made. (ie: if too many colours have been used by mistake or I'm missing the title of your design..) I will then send you a quick email to confirm I have your entry registered. If you haven't received this confirmation email, please do nudge me to check I have your designs in; It's a busy period and I'm only human so I do forget sometimes... It could just be my mistake or the design might not have come through so do nudge me to check I have your work.

7. Any questions - Please do email me straight away! We only three days to go to collaborate all your entries so use up those Christmas calories and get beavering away! Did you know, watching the TV uses 78 calories per hour? Imagine how many calories you'd be using to create three fab designs for the 100Shirts Competition?! Think of the weightloss and the prize money potential!!!

Hope that helps! If you have already submitted a design and still have another couple of entries open for grabs, use em chaps!!! It could turn out to be the best thing you did over Christmas!!

I've attached a copy of the 100Shirts Application Form here (word doc) 'just in case' any of you are missing anything. If you want the brief again, feel free to contact me or download it from www.artinliverpool.com/100shirts as a .pdf

As I say, anything else I can help you with, please do drop me a line.
All the best for the New Year!

Bob :-)

THE DEADLINE IS UPON US!

from Bob....

And all across the country can be heard the sounds of tap-tapping on pooters and cogs grinding with hasty artistic creativity!

Our postman has now been given a 4x4 from Royal Mail, the poor guy's deliveries are so heavy!
The standard of work is phenomenal - If you haven't already got your designs into us, email them over in either .ai or .eps ASAP!!

Yep, we will need application forms too (one per design please) and these must be received to qualify for submission.

We will send you an email confirming receipt of your emailed artwork and also a second email confirming receipt of your application form (one per design please).

Please so bare with me! There's only me tapping away here and trying to get through all the inbox, computer files, outward emails and the boot of our postie's 4x4! I will come back to you very quickly if there are any small changes which need to be made with your artwork and I will come back to you straight away should there be anything missing from your application forms (one per design please!).

If you know your application forms (did I mention we need one per design?!) should be with me by now and you've not heard from me, take it as good news and all is well! There's obviously nowt missing so I will come round to confirming these ones as soon as I can crawl out from under all these papers!!

Any urgent questions or queries which need to be answered in order for you to get your artwork mailed over on time, then type "URGENT!" in the subject header... And I will keep an eye out for those ones in particular. Any grovelling or flattery in the subject header is also most welcome.

ALL THE BEST FOR NEW YEAR CHAPS AND CHAPPESSES!

Bob :-)

A few foreign hellos!!

We've had entries from all over the country. Just thought I'd say a big hello to a few of our un-local entrants... Anna & Stu in Dorset (love the accent!), David in Nottingham, Jo in Old Trafford (being from Liverpool, I hate the dreaded M word!), big hello to Suzanna in Wigan (I love the place! chip-barm pea wet!), Jacquii and Stan in Prestwich (see Old Trafford entry!), Stuart in Colliers Wood.. Heya to Vicki in Edinburgh and last but by no means least, Pete in Fleetwood! HAPPY NEW YEAR ALL!
