The Awards Night

The 100Shirts Awards Event

From Bob at p-ornithology...
Hi All!

It's been a week now since the Awards Party on 2nd March - As some of you may already know, I've been ill for a long while now and unfortunately all of the activity of last week took it's toll so haven't been able to give you the lowdown until now - my apologies. I hope this will update you all...

It was wonderful to see so many of you on the night - those of you who couldn't make it, you missed a good night! It was great to finally be able to put a few faces to names!! A big special mention to the most handsome guest of the night, Archie Lockwood, Vicki's wonderful baby boy who simply beamed all night as if he was in a room full of toys!! (see pic on flickr)

The judging panel:
Robbie Davison - p-ornithology/ the100shirts
Jackie & Chris - Microzine
Sarah Vasey - Culture Company
Ian Jackson - ArtinLiverpool.com
Elaine Caldwell - Liverpool & Manchester Design Initiative
Andrew Small - The wonderfully talented, acclaimed artist - designed Super Lamb Banana amongst other inspiring artworks.

The winners were announced as:-
1st Prize (£1500) David Morley, Arboretum - Well done David! :-)
2nd Prize - was going to be £500
3rd Prize - was going to be £300

Well, the judging panel had quite a hard job with battling out the 2nd and 3rd place winners so in the end, the decision was taken to award 2 joint 2nd places and split the prize money evenly between the two!

so, JOINT 2nd place were:
Peter Fletcher (The Early Bird catched the 6 o'clock worm) £400
Doug Kerr, Pigeon Shot 1 £400

Congratulations to all three of you - Enjoy spending the well-deserved cash!! I've had a lovely email from Charlotte, David's girlfriend... Charlotte is especially proud of her man winning 1st Prize - You better intercept his cheque in the post Charlotte and make him spend some of it on you!!!

Unfortunately, out of the three winners, only Peter was able to be there on the night. We managed to capture the magic moment when Peter was presented his winning cheque by Sarah Vasey from the Culture Company (see Pic on flickr)

The Awards Photo - I hope I managed to capture you all at your best angle!! It was lovely to meet you all... Samantha J Mills (hello!), Angie & Gord, Lynsey & Catrin... so many to mention! A big hello to our new friends North of the Border, John & Hazel Paterson - It would have been lovely to have more time for a chat with you all!

Since the Awards, we have had some lovely messages from artists and guests alike - thank you all for coming and taking part. I'm sure all those who came on the night would agree, The 100Shirts certainly was a BIG SUCCESS! For the 100 chosen designs, you are now all officially published and exhibited artists! If you were unable to attend the awards night and would like a copy of The100Shirts Book/ Posters, there is still a last chance for you purchase them through the ebay shop - http://members.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewUserPage&userid=the100shirts

What's next??!!!
We hope you have enjoyed the project as much as we have. It's been a long journey but we got there and your collective hard work really did make a big success of the project - A big thank you to everyone of you who took part. Over here, we had a fabulous time piecing all of this together and will be getting in touch with you all again in the Summer with details of the NEXT BIG PROJECT!

... In the meantime, we will be looking at organising an Artists' Seminar for those of you who'd be interested in getting involved - perhaps looking at pooling together all this talent and channelling it towards some exciting new creative ventures... Watch this space!!

Last but by no means least...
A BIG thank you to Ian Jackson from ArtinLiverpool.com for all his hard work. Ian created this fabulous space for us to keep you all informed throughout The 100Shirts Project and he formulated the message boards for you all to keep in touch with each other. Thank you to all those who took the time to post messages on the boards too.

Your Feedback
If you haven't completed a Feedback Questionnaire and would like to, please email over to me your completed forms (word doc, downloadable here) as soon as you can. All the information provided to us will be put towards our evaluations for the funders - your comments/ thoughts on the project really do help.

Again, well done to all of you who took part in the project and all those who featured in the 100Shirts Exhibition. We hope you enjoyed the project as much as we did!

Keep in touch and hopefully, we will see you all again in the not-too-distant future.

Bob :-)

The Awards Evening

robbiespeech.jpgI had to be at Microzine for 18.30 last night. The awards evening started at 19.00 but I was on the judging panel and we still had to decide on the final 3 winners of the 100 T Shirts design competition.
It was very difficult of course but we managed to avoid fisticuffs and it was a really good evening with drinks provided by Sabai and an after party at the Tea Factory.
I will leave it to the p-ornithology guys to officially announce the winners. Here's a pic of Robbie making his speech and thanking all the judges, partners, artists etc.
I really enjoyed being part of this project which involved hundreds of artists from all over the UK and I'm looking forward to the next one.
More pictures on flickr soon.

I want to buy my shirt! Books are here! Posters too!

Hi All,

We have been attempting to make the project as complete as we possibly could for everybody who made it into the 100Shirts Exhibition. During the competition/ exhibition process, we have been working hard to produce materials that reflect and promote the quality of all the designs. It was important to create a legacy.

We have always felt that the best way to do this would be to produce a book containing your designs. We are now happy and relieved to tell you that the book has been produced.

Our intention was to have the full cost of the book covered by sponsorship, however, due to the short lead time we were unable to secure the full sponsorship. Feeling it was a vital tool and a fitting tribute to the project, we decided to produce the book anyway. We therefore will need to make a nominal charge for the book to cover the shortfall in sponsorship. This charge is £4.00. If you would like to buy a few books, we will be able to supply them in bundles of 3 for £10.00.

Similarly, with the posters, there was no project budget allowing for production of the posters. As a gesture, every artist attending the Awards Night will be given a free poster at the Awards Night; Outside of this, we will need to charge a nominal fee for these posters (A2 size). This charge is £3.00 (in a secure postal tube). If you would like to purchase several posters, we can supply them in bundles of 4 for £10.

Both the 100Shirts Book and Poster are of high quality and we're proud with the finished products - We hope you like them too.

To accomodate an easy transaction, we have set up an ebay store. You can access the store on the link below and use either paypal/ credit cards or cheques to purchase the above items.

One final response to requests to purchase shirts from the 100Shirts Exhibition -
A number of artists (as well as exhibition visitors actually!) have asked if they can buy their tshirt/ others from the 100Shirts Exhibition.
As you all know, the 100Shirts Project is funded and so we did not have the budget to produce and sell 100 different tshirts.

However, with the growing number of requests to purchase shirts from the exhibition, we are looking to offer a solution. It's possible for us to produce shirts at a relatively low cost but the process of low cost and quality is all about numbers - Therefore, the minimum print run we will be able to offer is 10 (all of same size/ design). This may or may not be of interest to those of you who have expressed an interest in getting hold of a number of shirts with your design on, but due to the costs associated with producing 1 high-quality screen printed tshirt, it is not viable to produce any of the designs in quantities less than 10.

If this approach is of any interest to you, the minimum order of 10 shirts (all of same design and size) and £95.00 + P&P (We always suggest Recorded Delivery). Bob will be making purchase of these available through the ebay store by tomorrow (MON) evening for those who are interested.

To be clear, we are only producing shirts for artists who want their design produced for their families and friends. We are not selling shirts to the wider public.

There will be a 21 day turn-around on shirt orders due to the potential complexity of producing runs of ten for many of the 100Shirts.

Again, for more information on sizing etc, please refer to link to our ebay store.

We will be able to answer questions but please be aware, this is the 100Shirts Awards Week! And the three of us are going crazy at the moment!

One last thing, are you coming to the Awards Night on Thursday 2nd March?! Have you got your name/s on the Guest List?! If not, please do email them over to us asap.

See you soon!

Robbie, Bob and Barry.

Culture Co. Press Release

BIRDS ON T-SHIRTS

· Unique opportunity for artists
· Exhibition - 100 T-Shirts printed with their designs on show

A UNIQUE T-shirt competition is unveiling 100 designs in an exhibition this week.

Artists from all over the country have been invited to submit their artworks on the subject of birds in the city for organisers, p-ornithology, to sift through with an expert panel of judges. The top 100 designs have been put onto T-shirts and will be exhibited in Microzine in Bold Street and in the 08 place, where four designs will be on sale. The top three designs will net their creators cash prizes totalling thousands of pounds.

Liverpool City Council leader, Councillor Warren Bradley, said: "Most people wear T-shirts on a regular basis so to use this popular forum to display artwork makes a truly mobile art gallery!"

P-ornithology create artistic and thought-provoking clothing. The 100 shirts project is supported by the Liverpool Culture Company, Merseyside Acme, the Liverpool and Manchester Design Initiative, Microzine, The Arts Council, Merseyside Special Investment Fund, and Acme Art.

Director Robbie Davison from p-ornithology said: "We wanted to inspire, support and facilitate the talents of visual artists from all over the UK and provide every artist who enters, the opportunity to win awards and exhibit their work. We feel that this competition has opened up the raw potential of T-shirts to be recognised as a perfect template for visual art."

There is also an online exhibition at www.p-ornithology.com. There will be an awards night at Microzine, starting at 7pm.

The 100Shirts Exhibition is up and running!

From Bob at p-ornithology.....

Hi All!

The 100Shirts Exhibition is up and running!
As of yesterday, the 100Shirts Exhibition went live! You are now able to go and visit the exhibition in MICROZINE, on Bold Street in Liverpool City Centre. There has already been considerable interest from other designers and artists who have seen all of your designs up so we think the exhibition will continue to draw the crowds over the next two weeks!

The 08 PLace - Liverpool Capital of Culture
A couple of weeks ago, we contacted four artists who's designs had been chosen to go into production by the 08 Place - the official Capital of Culture Shop in Liverpool City Centre. The chosen designs have been produced on to limited edition tees to be sold during the exhibition as an added feature, alongside the 100Shirts Exhibition at MICROZINE.

The designs were chosen to feature in the 08 Place as they felt the artwork fitted well with their own branding and the capital of culture theme.
The 4 lucky artists who had their designs chosen for the 08 Clothing range are:

Lynsey Hackett - Liverbirds - Produced into Limited edition Women's tees
Jeremy Southgate - Who's your daddy? - Limited edition Men's tees
Joe Bramall - Tower Birds - Limited edition Men's tees
Jenny Knight - Birds by Knight! - Produced into limited edition children's tees

Their tees have now all been printed and labelled and will be on sale at the 08Place on Monday morning. Congratulations to all of you!

Press Releases
There will be various press releases over the coming two/ three weeks. The first one will be through the Culture Company and again, several artists have been contacted already regarding these. We are just waiting for the artist's to grant us permission and will let you all know how the interviews go!

We expect there to be several more over the next couple of weeks and hope to involve different 100Shirts artists where we can. If you are interested in talking to the press and taking part in a short interview, email me and let me know and I can put you forward for the next ones when they arise! (How exciting!?!)

Well, that's all for now! If any of you take any good digipics when you visit the exhibition in MICROZINE, please do send me a couple and I will make sure they are shared around & posted on to the blog!

We will be coming to you all with options for purchasing your shirts too - Hopefully by tomorrow - So stay peeled if you are wanting to buy your shirts.

That's all for now folks! Have a great weekend!

Bob :-)

Take a Look in Microzine

micro100-1.jpg
micro100-3.jpg micro100-2.jpg

Looks really good. Robbie and Bob were there till late last night and they must have used some awful big step-ladders! Think the shirts are stuck to the wall with some magic Velcro stuff.
There's a few going up in the 08 place today.
Do call in and have a look, I'm surprised how different the designs look when printed on a real T shirt.

Microzine is at 65-67 Bold Street, Liverpool, L1 4EZ

The shirts are printed

100togo.jpg
I called into Microzine today to check out how the p-ornithology guys were getting on with setting up the exhibition.
As you can see Robbie and Bob were hard at work trying to get all 100 shirts neatly stuck to the walls on the 1st floor.
I'm going back tomorrow to see the finished product.
Remember they're on show until the Awards Evening on March 2nd. Have you booked your place yet?
